Our Mission
Old Macdonald's Shelter Mission Statement:
Martine began her animal rescue journey when she was asked to serve as a holding facility for the Ponoka area pound. In her role as a bylaw officer, she encountered numerous animals in need of help. As her duties expanded to cover additional areas, the number of animals at OMK animal shelter, often become overwhelming.
With local counties only funding the first three days of an animal's stay and the revenue from OMK's boarding services struggling to cover the rest, it became clear that a new solution was needed. Thus, Old Macdonald's Shelter was born—a safe haven for stray and unwanted cats and dogs. A refuge for those animals who have been abandoned or overlooked and need extra care and time to find their forever homes.
As a no-kill shelter, Old Macdonald's Shelter is committed to educating the public, supporting and participating in spay and neuter clinics, and offering emergency shelter for animals from other rescues and areas not covered by local bylaws.
OMK Shelter could not do the work it’s doing without the wonderful, ongoing support from our community.!
